Your own Wuthering Heights: an elopement on Mount Tamalpais
Wind-swept ridgelines, golden fog, and a love story straight out of the California moors — this Mount Tam elopement had it all.
There's something undeniably cinematic about Mount Tamalpais. The fog rolling through the redwoods, the golden light breaking over the ridgeline, the wild wind sweeping across the open trails — it's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stepped into another world entirely. When this couple reached out to me about their engagement shoot, we knew immediately: Mount Tam was the location.
When I first saw the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights — Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi on those windswept English moors — I thought: we have that right here in the Bay Area. We just call it Mount Tamalpais.
This past shoot on Mt. Tam in Marin County proved exactly that. The couple wanted something raw, cinematic, and deeply romantic — an elopement that felt like it belonged in a novel. And honestly? Mount Tamalpais delivered every single frame.
Why Mount Tamalpais is the Wuthering Heights of the Bay Area
If you've seen the Wuthering Heights aesthetic — the windswept drama, the moody atmosphere, the sense of two people completely alone in a vast landscape — you already understand Mt. Tam. At sunset, the ridgeline glows amber and the Pacific fog rolls in like something out of a gothic romance novel. It's cinematic in a way few places in Northern California can match.
For elopements and intimate couples sessions, Mount Tamalpais State Park in Marin County offers elevation, sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, and that wild, untamed quality that makes photos feel like art. It's only 30 minutes from San Francisco — but it feels like another world entirely.
The elopement session
We timed the shoot around golden hour, when the light on the mountain turns soft and warm and everything looks like it's glowing from within. The couple was relaxed, in love, and completely unbothered by the wind — which, honestly, only made the photos more dramatic. Hair moving, layers catching the breeze, the kind of movement you simply can't manufacture in a studio.
The result is a gallery that feels intimate and epic at the same time — two people, a mountain, and a story that's entirely their own.

Planning a Mount Tamalpais elopement or couples shoot
Mt. Tam is one of my favorite locations for Bay Area elopement photography — and it's deeply underused compared to spots like Lands End or Baker Beach. Here's what you need to know:
Best time to shoot: Golden hour (one hour before sunset) for that warm, cinematic Wuthering Heights quality. Foggy mornings are also stunning and moody.
Location: Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin County — accessible from Mill Valley, Fairfax, and Stinson Beach.
What to wear: Flowing fabrics, earthy tones, and layers.
